Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Coming off their first-ever ACC loss, the now sixth-ranked Louisville Cardinals will attempt to right the ship, as they play host to the Virginia Tech Hokies in a conference clash at the KFC Yum! Center on Tuesday evening. Rick Pitinos Cardinals have just two losses all season. The first came against top-ranked Kentucky (58-50) and the second on Saturday at 18th-ranked North Carolina (72-71). The loss to the Tar Heels was the first in conference play for Louisville and ended a three-game win streak. Buzz Williams first season in Blacksburg hasnt exactly gone according to plan. The Hokies are hovering just over .500 at 8-7, but the team is still looking for its first ACC victory, entering this contest with a three-game losing streak in tow. The team was last in action on Jan. 6, an 86-75 road loss at Florida State, leaving the team 0-2 in conference play. Louisville has dominated this series overall with a 28-8 edge in games played since the series began in 1978. The Cardinals have won nine straight meetings. The Hokies shot a solid .519 from the floor in the first half against Florida State, but it was the Seminoles that were red-hot, going .731 from the floor, including a ridiculous 7-of-10 from behind the arc in the first stanza. Despite both teams cooling off considerably after the break, Tech was unable to overcome and earn a win. The loss spoiled terrific performances by guards Justin Bibbs and Adam Smith, who combined for 49 points. Bibbs topped all scorers with 25, followed closely by Smiths 24. Virginia Tech is by no means an offensive juggernaut, averaging 69.4 ppg this year, but the team has been efficient at that end of the floor, converting almost 48 percent of the time (.478). Bibbs leads the team in scoring at 13.5 ppg, but has really taken over in conference play, netting 23.5 ppg through two outings. Smith is the only other Hokie currently averaging double digits in the scoring column at 12.7 ppg. Joey van Zegeren is just under the mark however, with 9.8 ppg. Louisville let one slip away in Chapel Hill over the weekend, as the Cardinals allowed a 13-point lead with under nine minutes to play evaporate, culminating in a one-point loss to the Tar Heels. The team was led once again by guard Terry Rozier, who finished with 25 points, five rebounds and five assists in the loss. Fellow guard Chris Jones poured in 19 points, while forward Wayne Blackshear finished with 10 points. All-America candidate Montrezl Harrell struggled however, as the big man tallied just nine points and five rebounds in 38 minutes of work. The Cardinals lack of defensive grit down the stretch against UNC has not been the norm this season. In fact, Louisville remains one of the top defensive units in the country, yielding just 56.5 ppg on a mere .364 shooting. Rozier has emerged as one of the ACCs top scorers this season, coming into this matchup averaging 17.5 ppg. Harrell has struggled a little of late, but is still shooting .584 from the field and averaging 15.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Jones and Blackshear provide offensive options with their 13.2 and 12.4 ppg, respectively. However, there is almost no scoring depth behind the four starters, as the fifth-best scoring option on the team nets a mere 4.1 ppg. Speaking on TSN Radio 1050s TSN Drive with Dave Naylor on Monday, Colangelo said he had no intention of tanking the shortened 2011-12 season, but definitely wanted a high pick in the draft. "I wish that word wasnt used for headline reasons," said Colangelo, "but the story behind it was: how can we fix the system? How can we tweak the system to make it less likely that teams are rewarded for losing records? "I do believe that if youre as transparent as we were at the time - with our season seat holders, our fans, the market place and the media - everybody knew what the plan was and what we were going through. Vincent Lamar Carter is no longer the lean, athletic dynamo who dazzled Raptors fans with eye-popping dunks that posterized even the leagues best defenders. When Canadian doubles tennis star Daniel Nestor was playing in the U.S. Open last week, his daughter Tiana was back home in Toronto attending her first day of kindergarten. Like they do almost every day of the 35 weeks Nestor is on the road, the concerned dad and his daughter shared the details of their days via Skype. "(Tiana) is very shy," Nestor said from Belgrade, where Canada will battle Serbia this weekend in an historic Davis Cup semifinal. "Shes one of those kids who, if shes somewhere for three hours, the last hour she comes into her own. The first two hours shes not being herself. She definitely needs some pushing and motivation to open up. Hopefully she comes around because I was like that too. If shes as shy as I was growing up, it will be tough for her. "But shes a lot better looking than I am, so that should help her," he added with a laugh. Modern technology, Nestor said, has made travelling easier. Its helped the father of two daughters -- Tiana will turn five in December, Bianca is six months old -- remain on the ATP tour, where hes claimed 81 mens doubles titles, including eight Grand Slams, in a pro career that has spanned more than two decades. The Toronto native is the oldest regular player on the tour, having turned 41 last week during his 21st consecutive U.S. Open appearance. (No, he didnt celebrate. "There is nothing about turning 41 worth celebrating," he joked.) Nestor, however, doesnt plan on walking away from the game just yet. And why would he when there are still so many reasons to play, including Canadas unprecedented recent performances on the international stage. "People ask me how long Im going to play. When you have a talented (Canadian) team and potential to play in these types of matches in years to come, thats what keeps me going still," he said ahead of Fridays opening matches on the clay of Belgrade Arena. "If were able to win this, it will definitely be a top moment (in my career)," added Nestor, who won an Olympic gold medal in 2000. "Even being in this situation is a top moment." Canada has never made it this far in the event that begins each year with 130 countries and sees only 16 teams qualify for the World Cup. This weekends winner moves onto the final in November against the winner of the other semifinal between Argentina and Czech Republic. Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ont., will lead the Canadians versus world No. 1 Novak Djokovic and Serbia in the semi that is expected to draw 15,000 fans each day. Nestor, who was born in Belgrade, will team up again with 23-year-old Vasek Pospisil. The two recorded a dramatic 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 3-6, 15-13 win in Canadas Davis Cup quarter-final victory over Italy last spring, a marathon thriller that lasted an exhausting four-and-a-half hours and set the stage for Raonics singles win that ensured Canadas advancement. Despite the near two-decades age difference -- or perhaps partly because of it -- the two complement each other well. Pospisil is the more energetic and emotional of the two, who reached the third round of last weeks U.S. Open in their first Grand Slam together, while Nestor is the calming influence. "Vasek right now is really confident,, hes playing great tennis in singles and hes always had great doubles instincts," Nestor said.dddddddddddd "Hes serving great. Big first serve and second serve, hes a big hitter from the baseline, and very capable at the net too. Its always nice playing with a young guy thats explosive and eager." By comparison, Nestor described himself as a "perfectionist," and "someone whos able to do all things fairly well, but I wont say Im the best at anything." Pospisil, a Vernon, B.C., native who now calls Vancouver home, considers himself lucky to play alongside the veteran who secured the world No. 1 mens double ranking for more than 100 weeks. "(Nestor) is a legend and someone I looked up to for many years growing up," Pospisil said. "So obviously playing with him the first few time was nerve wracking. I feel much more comfortable now a year or two later and Im really able to appreciate it. "Having experience like that on the court beside me is extremely valuable not just to our partnership but also to me as a young player on the Tour." Nestor hopes to play through 2014, and turn around what hasnt been the greatest 2013. Hes changed partners a handful of times this season, most recently parting ways with Swede Robert Lindstedt, saying "We were getting on each others nerves a little bit too much. . . We just decided it was time to move on." His world doubles ranking has plummeted -- hes currently No. 13. So before the curtain comes down on his career, hed love to claim a couple more Grand Slam titles and see his ranking climb back to the top. He said his body, remarkably, feels a lot better than it did back in the early days during his injury-plagued singles career. He travels with his own physiotherapist now. He draws inspiration from older athletes such as Niklas Lidstrom, the former Detroit Red Wings defenceman and seven-time Norris Trophy winner who retired at the age of 42. "There are a lot of athletes who have endured," Nestor said. "I think a lot of it is that people retire because theyre fed up or sick of it. Yes, it is very tough not being with my family all the time. But from what Ive heard from people whove retired, they all say This is the best it is. So Ill make the most of it and then move on." As his career winds down, he said he appreciates being in the moment more. He and wife Natasha make a point of sightseeing when she travels with him. He hopes to bring his family to the Australian Open in January -- Tiana made the trip to Melbourne once before, but it was when she was too young to remember. "Definitely the life and the camaraderie with the other players is something I appreciate a lot more now. I was very shy when I was younger, and didnt always enjoy the lifestyle," Nestor said. "For sure I do appreciate it more. I know the days are numbered, so I really try and soak it up as much as I can until the day is done." Serbia, meanwhile, earned its spot in the Davis Cups final four with a win over the United States, a performance that saw Nestors former partner Nenad Zimonjic and Ilija Bozoljac upset the legendary Bryan brothers -- Mike and Bob -- in mens doubles.
