The Philadelphia Flyers signed defenceman Andrew MacDonald to a six-year, $30 million contract on Tuesday. The deal carries a cap hit of $5 million per season. MacDonald will earn $4.25 million next year, with escalating values over the following five seasons of $4.5 million, $4.75 million, $5.25 million, $5.5 million, and $5.75 million. The Flyers acquired MacDonald from the New York Islanders at the trade deadline. In 19 games he had four assists and averaged over 20 minutes of ice time for Philadelphia. MacDonald had four goals and 24 assists in 82 games split between the Islanders and Flyers this season, and led the league in blocked shots with 242.
