All it took for the Montreal Canadiens to avoid their longest losing streak of the season was a return home. That and some line shuffling by coach Michel Therrien. Strong play at home has been a constant all season for the Canadiens, who look to continue that trend Friday night against the Los Angeles Kings. You can listen to coverage on TSN Radio 690 Montreal beginning at 6pm et. Montreal matched its longest skid of the season with a third straight loss, 4-1 at Dallas on Saturday. That ended a stretch of seven of eight on the road for the Canadiens (18-10-2), who returned to more familiar surroundings with a 3-1 victory over Vancouver on Tuesday in the opener of a five-game homestand. It was far from a perfect win, though, as the Canadiens were held to a season-low 16 shots and needed Thomas Plekanecs tiebreaking goal with 4:16 remaining. We all knew we needed to do more offensively, said Brendan Gallagher, who opened the scoring in the second period. We generated a lot of chances. Every line contributed. With his team struggling, Therrien put Alex Galchenyuk at center with Max Pacioretty and Gallagher on the first line, while David Desharnais played with Michael Bournival on the second. Sven Andrighetto joined Plekanec and fellow rookie Jiri Sekac on the third. Andrighetto has picked up a point in each of his first two NHL games. I dont really focus on goals and points, Andrighetto told the teams official website. Its my job to help the team win games. Thats my primary role on the second line with Plekanec. Defenceman P.K. Subban will play against the Kings after he missed yesterdays practice due to illness. The Canadiens have scored only 15 goals - excluding one into an empty net - during a 2-5-1 stretch. However, they are 10-3-1 at home with an average 3.1 goals compared to 1.8 per game on the road. Part of their offensive woes can be traced to slow starts. Montreal has scored a league-low nine first-period goals and has been outscored 8-2 in the opening 20 minutes over the past nine games. The Kings gained a split on the first two stops of a five-game trip with a 5-3 victory over Ottawa on Thursday. Jake Muzzin had a career-high three assists, setting up third-period goals by Anze Kopitar and Trevor Lewis to help Los Angeles (15-9-5) avoid a third consecutive loss. Kopitar scored his first goal in 10 games, putting the Kings ahead for good 36 seconds after the Senators made it 2-all. That was big. They had momentum going their way and we kind of shifted it back into our hands, Muzzin said. To come back with a goal right away was huge. The five goals were the most by the Kings since a 5-2 win over Florida on Nov. 18. They totaled eight in the previous four games. After Jonathan Quick made 32 saves to beat the Senators, red-hot Martin Jones could get the nod in the second half of this back-to-back. Jones has lowered his goals-against average to 1.42 with shutouts in his last two starts. He stopped 31 shots in a 6-0 victory at Montreal on Dec. 10, 2013, lifting Los Angeles to its first win there since 1999. The Kings won both meetings against the Canadiens last season after seven straight losses in the series. -- PROJECTED LINES: Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Gallagher Andrighetto - Plekanec - Sekac Bournival - Desharnais - Parenteau Prust - Malhotra - Weise Markov - Subban Emelin - Gonchar Beaulieu - Gilbert Price (starter) Tokarski Scratches: Tangradi, Allen Injured: Eller (UBI), Weaver (concussion) TSN Game Notes LAK were 2-0-0 vs MTL last season, outscoring them 8-1 MTL has gone 5-1-0 past 6 at home vs LAK (lost last) MTL (18-10-2): won last game, havent won back to back last 8 games 2-0-1 when scoring first, 0/9 on PK 10-0-0 when scoring first Plekanec (1G, 2A) 3 game PT streak LAK (15-9-5): 4-2-2 past 8 road games, 4GF or more in 5 of the games 12-0-3 when scoring first 1 career GP for Quick (0-1-0) in MTL Jan 31/09 (4GA) Carter (0G, 2A) past 10 games Adidas NMD Kengät . We have to beat those elite teams, like Washington and Atlanta, and we cant beat them right now, Fournier said. Kyle Korver, Millsap and Mike Scott all hit from deep during a 1:45 window midway through the period. Teague followed Scotts triple with a runner to give Atlanta an 81-73 lead. OQuinn, who had eight of his 14 points in the fourth, scored on consecutive possessions around a Millsap miss to pull Orlando back within four with a minute to play. Teague and Millsap put the game away with two free throws apiece in the final minute.dddddddddddd We needed a game like this, when things werent falling on the offensive end and we had to pick it up defensively, Teague said. Second half, I think we did a pretty good job making it tough for them. The Hawks owned a 29-26 lead after a high-scoring first quarter in which both teams shot better than 58 percent. The second quarter was a different story, as the two teams combined to shoot 9-for-44 for 25 total points. It was 40-40 at halftime. Fournier scored seven points during a 12-3 swing for Orlando to open the third quarter. Atlanta chipped away throughout the period and with 39 seconds remaining, Dennis Schroder drove and kicked to a wide open Horford, whose corner 3 tied it at 64. Game Notes Atlantas nine-game win streak matches the Clippers for second best in the NBA this season behind Golden States 14 game streak, which it currently holds ... Magic center Nikola Vucevic missed his sixth straight game with a back injury ... Seven different Hawks had at least two assists. ' ' '
