A rising star on the blueline for St. Louis, Big Buff a force for the Jets, Wilson controlling play for the Predators, lineup news, stats and more in Scott Cullen’s Statistically Speaking. HEROES Kevin Shattenkirk – The St. Louis blueliner had a goal and an assist in Friday’s 4-3 loss at Anaheim, then added a goal and three assists at San Jose Saturday giving him 17 points (5 G, 12 A) in his past 14 games. He’s tied Mark Giordano for the scoring lead among defencemen and is a puck possession driver for the Blues. Here are the top 10 scoring defencemen in the league this far: DEFENCE SCORING LEADERS DEFENCEMAN TEAM GP G A PTS CORSI% RELATIVE CORSI% Mark Giordano Calgary 40 10 25 35 47.6% +3.8% Kevin Shattenkirk St. Louis 39 7 28 35 54.7% +6.3% Brent Burns San Jose 39 10 19 29 52.9% +1.1% John Carlson Washington 38 4 24 28 51.2% +0.1% P.K. It’s really remarkable how well the Jets have played since their defence was decimated by injuries. In the past month, they have the second-best score-adjusted Corsi (55.9%) and it’s been a team effort. Colin Wilson – Turning into a puck possession beast, the Nashville left winger had a goal and an assist and was on the ice for three even-strength goals (with none against) in Saturday’s 7-6 overtime win at Los Angeles. After going scoreless Sunday, Wilson has nine points (5 G, 4 A) in the past seven games. Not only is Wilson the league-leader in Corsi%, among players with at least 400 5-on-5 minutes this season, but using War on Ice’s scoring chance measures, he’s also top of the table in that measure.
